What You Need to Know About Concrete Driveway Repair
Driveway repair will greatly depend on the kind of driveway you have. For example, when looking to perform concrete driveway repair, it could be a matter of purchasing and applying some cement filler to the area that is in need of repair. However, with an asphalt driveway, it will need some specialty applications which will differ depending on the size of repair.
In the case of a concrete driveway repair, start by removing any growth that could be crowding the perimeter of your driveway, in order to work with clean edges all the way around. On the day you apply the filler, consider taping your homes foundations or garage door area to prevent them from being covered in cement, again this greatly depends on the size of the repair.
You must always clean and prep each area that needs repair. When there are any weeds or grasses growing through the cracks, you need to remove them and just to be on the safe side, use some weed killer. Clean each area with some warm water and laundry detergent. Then with a stiff bristled brush remove any debris from the cracks. When you are dealing with oil or grease stains, use an oil-stain cleaner from your local hardware store and follow the directions on the packet.
For holes, you need a “cold patch”, however, sometimes you will have to make the crack bigger. When your driveway repair is bigger than 2 inches in depth, break up the chunks you dug and use them as filler that will be level about 1-½ inches from the top. Then apply the patch in stages using a trowel.
Apply enough to create a slight curve just above the level of your driveway. Put some plywood over this and leave it to settle. This should not be walked or driven over for at least 1 week, depending on the manufacturer’s recommendations and what the weather conditions are like. Once cured you can apply a sealer over it.
